1St Avenue Machine - Specialten Issue 19

1st Avenue Machine. We had previously seen their work in issue #14 for Alias and the track ‘Sixes Last’.

The video, quite rightly, was written about in many a publication; the technique was sublime and the execution excellent.

Ever since then we were keen to work with 1st Avenue. So with issue #19 came the chance. Giving over our design for the entire issue can sometimes be unnerving, with no surprise whatsoever I can tell you that we never had a moment of the shakes. We discussed the project between us all and ‘the Machine’ just rolled into motion. The results are superb; there is a very classic quality about the work that they deliver. The fictional characters and objects that they create are so simple upon first view, and of course they should be, it is what makes them a sight that you automatically do not at first question their authenticity. Their animated actions, equally smooth, bring settings to life, again showing that the key can be subtlety. We look forward always to seeing work from this very talented group of designers and animators from the U.S. and there is one thing that comes to mind, it could be in various different forms, music video, title sequences, commercials, feature film effects; their style is so versatile and dexterous, even if they keep the format the same and adjust the mix.
