First Place - Short Film

In the aftermath of an unexplained disaster, an F-1 driver is left stranded on a desolate arctic landscape. With help from a Siberian Husky, the stranded driver heads for the finish line only to find himself a pitiful champion to an indifferent world.

‘First Place’ is the latest film by Joji Koyama. One of his earliest works under his Alias ‘Woof Wan-Bau’ was ‘Water Melon Love” that featured in issue #7 of Specialten. Since then Joji has been a regular contributor of films and artwork (the short film ‘From Nose to Mouth’ on issue #20, he was also the Ltd print contributor for issue #18). He has an unmistakable level of quality, subtlety and talent. This is personally, I think, my favorite of his films. It seems suitably bizarre, but at the same time conjures up an affection for the journey of a completely inanimate model of Michael Schumacher.

First Place appears in full on the Dvd in this issue.
