Puppet Boy - Short Film

“Puppetboy” has just received both the Award for ‘The International Competition Jury’ as well as ‘The Audience Award’ at ‘The Hamburg Short Film Festival’.

When I started to work on Puppetboy it was a kind of reaction against getting bored of too much work in front of the computer. I got sore eyes from years of moving pixels around on a monitor. I wanted to create something really simple, tell a very simple story, using materials I had at hand. And working with my hands, sculpting things. The idea was also to work very fast, not caring so much about esthetics and design. Make it ugly and produce fast. I wanted to do a 5 minute animation in one week. In the end it turned out it took a lot longer than that. And that is a shame. I have worked with this Puppetboy character for a couple of years now, and even made a live action film about him, where he breaks loose from his miniature clay world and enters the real world, in full size (using a huge, over 2 meters tall, silicone costume). It is getting more and more complicated, with a lot of layers of realities interweaved.”

Puppetboy himself also enjoyed a constant week of pressattention at The Cannes Film Festival.

Puppet Boy appears in full on the Dvd in this issue.
